As you may be aware, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and Representative Mark Meadows (R-NC) have introduced in their respective chambers, a bipartisan resolution calling for the designation of October 28 as “Honoring the Nation’s First Responders Day.” Senate Concurrent Resolution 15 (S.Con.Res.15) was introduced by Senator Warren and passed in the Senate this past June by unanimous consent, and House Concurrent Resolution 37 (H.Con.Res.37), offered by Representative Meadows, is currently awaiting action in the House of Representatives.
Each measure includes language specifically listing public works among the first responders that should receive this recognition. As you may know, public works professionals are recognized as first responders by the federal government as outlined in Public Law 107-296 under Section (2)(6), signed into law on November 25, 2002.
We ask that you please take a few moments to contact your Senators and thank them for supporting S.Con.Res.15. Additionally, we ask that you reach out to your Representative asking them to bring H.Con.Res.37 to the House of Representatives floor and vote for its adoption.
